The Danger of the Human Mind
Over the weekend, a story made headline news of a young, black woman who killed her "best" friend by cutting her unborn baby from her stomach with a pair of scissors. The young woman's body was found discarded in an empty lot not far from where they lived. The victim also had three other children, who, later in the weekend, were found decomposing in a washing machine and dryer inside the victim's house. The murderer has confessed to all five deaths. I recite these details because maybe, just maybe, by writing it, then I could comprehend the magnitude of the crime. Maybe, just maybe, I could understand the workings of the human mind and how anyone could do this. I talked with my sister and expressed my suprise and the horror that I felt at the situation. Even as I said that I was suprised, I realized that I am actually not suprised by things of this nature any more. I have seen human nature at its worst in the stories that grace the pages of our newspapers and the headlines of the online news. I have seen the historically accurate accounts of what was done during slavery, the Jewish Holocaust, and the murdering that is taking place in Dafur and Sudan in Africa. So, no I am not suprised anymore, but I am still left wondering why. . .
